Shop Local collaboration delivers a freshly-baked taste of Italy to the town centre


A collaboration between two local businesses is delivering artisan bread to Chesterfield town centre.

The Gingerbread Boy Real Bread Company on Chatsworth Road is now making a range of artisan breads for the Italian delicatessen delicibo.

The business owners, Vittorio Risorto of delicibo, Glumangate and Peter Fairhall of The Gingerbread Boy, came together through their shared passion for great food and the Shop Local ethos.

Each of the breads has been specially developed by Peter using delicibo’s authentic Italian ingredients, including sun dried tomatoes, ‘Nduja and organic olives.

Vittorio Risorto said: “Chesterfield has an up and coming food scene and there is a good demand for great tasting, good quality food. Peter’s bread is the closest I can get to that which my mother makes, so it was only natural to partner with him to supply delicibo. And he hasn’t disappointed. The bread is very popular and we will continue using feedback from our customers to ensure we are meeting their needs. We hope to increase the range and amount of days it is in the shop shortly”

The Gingerbread Boy Real Bread Company opened on Chatsworth Road last July. Owner Peter personally makes and sells more than 20 different types of bread on the premises, starting production at 4am every day. Already he is looking for larger premises in order to expand the business as well as develop a range of herb jellies, jams, chutneys and pickles.

Previously from Cambridge, Peter relocated to Chesterfield with his wife and young family a year ago. He said: “I am obsessed with food and artisan bread is my passion, particularly more unusual food combinations. delicibo is an Aladdin’s Cave of flavours and having ready access to these ingredients in the breads is a partnership that embodies the Shop Local message.”

He added: “The people in Chesterfield are so friendly and I am delighted that they have not only welcomed me and my family but also the business to the area.”

Made freshly each day, the Focaccia, Sour Dough and Ciabatta breads are delivered to delicibo every Friday and Saturday morning and have already built up a following on the company’s Facebook page with Liz Lovell commenting: “Last week we had the olive and sundried tomato bread – it just about made the journey home – we loved it.”
