In a letter to the Derbyshire Times, a reader asks why, in the current economic crisis, is the council considering borrowing £6m for a new Leisure/Sports Centre?
The letter quotes a Chesterfield Borough Council issued a publication showing:
1. Refurbishing the existing centre at a cost of £3.7m
2. Partial re-build at a cost of £6.1m
3. Completely new facility at a cost of £8.5m
but fails to mention the cost of demolishing the existing centre.
The issue is to be debated next week at a full council meeting on the 24th July – and Alan Maris lead of the Save Our Leisure Centre campaign has been invited.
