Derbyshire’s Youth Clubs Face Axe

Young people, along with the elderly, are probably one of the most vulnerable groups in society today, and they look to be taking another battering as Derbyshire Council announce that youth clubs across the county may be axed to save money.

The list of possible targets includes DCAS, the Donut Creative Arts Studio in Chesterfield.

With youth unemployment running at over a million – over a third of the total unemployed, 2.64 million, we look to see a whole generation given the worst possible start in their adult life.

People are quick to complain about gangs of youngsters hanging around the streets late at night, but they never think that it is societies fault for not providing any alternative.

Meanwhile the bankers keep receiving their £million bonuses and the public sector strike in support of their pensions.

We must ask the question, “Do we get the youth we deserve?” We spend little or nothing on them, leaving many with a very bleak future, is this why they were so quick to riot in the summer? Did they just want a piece of the pie that we lucky ones have?

It’s a total disgrace – and the government should hang their heads in shame.
