After three nights of rioting, burning and looting, locals form a “clean-up army” – showing the true spirit of the British people.
All around the world the media is awash with images and stories of rioting and looting, like this image of a carpet shop in flames in Tottenham last Saturday night.
Thousands of hooded and masked rioters pelted police officers with bricks and bottles, looted shops and set fire to cars, shops and businesses.
But the true spirit of the UK shone through this morning as residents, anxious to confront the situation, took to the streets with brushes and shovels to clean up the damage of three nights of riots.
It’s hard not to use the old cliche “The Spirit of the Blitz” because that was what it was – men women and children of all ages and ethnicity gathered in force to try and return their streets to some semblance of normality.
